or "Fourth of La-Jy" as the five-year-old calls it (much to my delight).
we made plans with our friends the mullens to get breakfast at one of those classy all-you-can-eat buffets. i confess some of my very fondest childhood memories involve once-a-year feasts at similar restaurants where we were allowed to gorge ourselves with reckless abandon on individually-portioned plastic containers of sugar cereal and self-serve sundaes with gummi bears.
what kind of mother would i be if i didn't give my children the same?
there was also swimming at the community pool. and fireworks, of course. it should be noted that one of the children got really scared halfway through. i won't tell you which. (it might surprise you.)
speaking of the mullens, some of you may remember our friends ryan and meredith and the baby they lost last year. so many of you reached out to them at that time, i was really touched by your compassion and support. even now, i still get emails from people, asking how they are doing. well, i am happy to report that ryan and meredith are expecting again! baby looks healthy (they just found out the sex today!) and mom is feeling good. thank you for continuing to think of them. we are thrilled to share their happy news!
yay babies! and america! and exclamation points!
signing off now...
