just an ordinary day. but not. i could have a baby today! or not. such a funny in-between-ness, these last few days of pregnancy.
i've slowed down a lot over the last month or so. out of necessity, as well as by conscious decision. life has been sort of a blur since january. the engineer was out of town for a while, and then while he was in malaysia he caught the flu, and then he came home, and then after a while he got better--just in time to really get sick. i won't go into details except to say that feeding a semi-coherent grown man protein shakes and pureed baby food from a squeeze bottle is pretty much as nuts as it sounds.
my parents flew into town from salt lake city last week to help with kids and give me a much-needed mental health break. i don't normally recommend playing hostess to out-of-town guests in the final days before birthing a baby, but, you guys. it was awesome. they stayed in a hotel and invited the kids to sleep over at night and took them swimming and to the library and out for donuts. i had a whole week of mornings to myself to just…be. i can't tell you how much that meant to me.
and then i beat my dad at cards. that was another highlight.
and then i failed to produce a baby before my parents left on tuesday. but i think they're okay with it. actually, i know they are.
so now we wait. like i said, i'm 40 weeks today. and i have a history of giving birth to paul bunyan's babies, so i confess i do hope we don't wait too, too long.
talk to you soon? maybe?
