scout's birthday invitations were featured on the lovely and inspiring blogs you are my fave, oh happy day!, giver's log, and others yesterday. a big thank you to them + a welcome and hello! to all of my new readers. i am both extremely excited and slightly unnerved to have so many eyeballs here. (why is it i have this urge to look behind me and make sure my skirt's not tucked into my underwear or something?)

funny thing about the timing, as i am just about to take a previously scheduled summer blogging break. outdoor concerts, a parade, and the lake are calling. the engineer is even taking time off to keep us company. i hope you'll be patient with me and stick around until i'm back online in a couple of weeks. maybe stop by my tumblr if you need a shot of happy? i may be posting there sporadically if i get a minute.

look at me and my bad self. she who still does not own a cell phone now has her own tumblr site/page/thing.

currently, it's a place to compile images of (other people's) interiors that inspire me, but i hope to branch out and include other stuff down the road. maybe a new format for these "why didn't i think of that" posts?

anyway, take a peek if you like. we'll just see where this leads.

first birthday party invitation

the text (borrowed from here) reads:

"tiny food and tons of fun for a little girl who is turning one...join us for scout's first birthday party..."

my sister-in-law is the genius behind the teeny-tiny accordion-folded inserts. she made them once for her christmas party back in the old days at BYU. as i recall, we were the only boring married couple there, and i ate a lot of spinach dip. also, there might have been some embarrassing PDA under the mistletoe. good times.

full disclosure. don't try this at home. well, try this at home, but you should know that it won't work. well, it will work--long enough to take some pretty pictures maybe but not long enough to hand-deliver as i'd hoped. and certainly not to mail. the (water) balloons are so small and the amount of helium so little that they only float for a very limited time (i.e. minutes). still a cute concept, i think, as a series of photos you could mail/email. or send the boxes out with balloons filled with plain old air. no, they won't have the same surprise factor as the helium balloons rising out of the boxes, but they'll still be unique and fun and memorable for the recipients. --editor

lazy post today. i have a cold/flu/mucous thing. [whine.]

the upside, if there is one, is the new and improved view from command central (a.k.a. le sickbed). thank you all for your kind comments and emails about scout's spruced-up corner of the master bedroom. it makes me smile, and so do you.

sleeping nook

i finally decided to do something about the blank walls in the baby's corner of the master bedroom. thirty minutes later--floating shelf hung, lanterns suspended, a couple of personal items displayed--and i'm kicking myself for not making this little nook hers months ago.

(maybe decorating doesn't have to be as complicated/scary as i make it out to be...?)
